Book cover illustration inspired by Alex Ross' "The Rest is Noise".

The metaphor of travel was used to illustrate the book.  "The Rest Is Noise" is not about the history of music but history told through music.  While reading the book, one feels as if he or she is taken on a musical journey through time.  Through the use of visual representations such as staves as road through time, I aimed to illustrate this idea.

Cover illustration for an imaginary book called Pavlov's Dog.  Just from the title, I imagined a book on media and social behaviour.  Using the term conditioned-reflex as a metaphor to describe society being influenced by media.  And perhaps a phycological breakdown of how media controls our needs.  

A simple idea to illustrate this concept.  An anonymous man has a patch of his head shaven and "Pavlov's Dog" is engraved in the patch.  It can be associated with tags on lab animals, engraving or forcing ideas into one's head and etc. 


I worked with a new medium and technique.  For an experimental piece, I think it worked out well.  Oil pastel is easy to work with, blends well and has a thick texture that allows it to be layered.  But it was difficult to draw details such as hair strands.  I worked around that by layering oil pastel on the paper first then scratching the upper layer with a toothpick to create the hair. (Like back in elementary XD)
